Both were superb in their role. But the best actress award should go to any one and Priyanka Chopra was lucky to bag the best actress IIFA award beating Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who was also in the nomination for ‘Jodhaa Akbar’. The announcement came as a surprise for filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker who was expecting Ash to be awarded. In his speech, he compared Priyanka with Aishwarya and at the same time expressed his shock for not awarding Ash. He even dragged Jaya Bachchan’s name to the drama and said that she also thinks the same.
One section of the industry felt that Ashutosh was wrong in dragging Jayaji’s name to the episode while Jaya Bachchan felt Ashutosh was correct. She said, “First of all it is being presumed that Ashutosh unnecessarily mentioned my name regarding Aishwarya’s omission from the awards. The fact is, I suggested he bring up the question on stage at IIFA. We were discussing why Aishwarya has not been given any award for Jodhaa-Akbar and I suggested Ashutosh bring up the matter. So when he mentioned my name he wasn’t doing anything wrong.”
Aishwarya’s omission from the award disheartened Jaya as she feels her bahu has lived her part well and looked very similar to the royal Rajasthani queen in her body language.
